Notes
1064nm Nd:YAG using Aerolase's 650-microsecond pulse technology, same as the Neo Elite but with higher energy output. Aerolase positions the Neo Derm as a combination of the Neo Elite (aesthetic/multi-purpose) and Neo V (vascular specialist), covering both medical and aesthetic dermatology in one device. No cooling system, no contact gel, no numbing required. The handpiece does not touch the skin during treatment. Internally air-cooled, compact design, no fiber optics or water cooling. Hair removal is one of many applications; the device is FDA-cleared for 36+ indications under the broader Aerolase Nd:YAG clearance (K120235). Aerolase markets specific treatment protocols under branded names: NeoClear (acne), NeoSkin (rejuvenation). Weighs roughly 25 lbs. Targeted primarily at dermatology practices wanting both medical and aesthetic capability from a single platform. Not to be confused with the Neo V, which is vascular-only and not typically used for hair removal.
Overview
Aerolase's top-tier 1064nm Nd:YAG platform, combining the capabilities of both the Neo Elite and Neo V into one system with enhanced energy output. Like all Aerolase Neo devices, it requires no cooling, no numbing cream, and no contact gel. The handpiece never touches your skin.
How It Works
The 650-microsecond pulse duration is the key innovation. It delivers laser energy faster than the skin's thermal relaxation time (about 800 microseconds), so heat gets sealed inside the target (hair follicle, blood vessel, pigment) before it can spread to surrounding tissue. This is why no external cooling is needed. The 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength penetrates deep and bypasses epidermal melanin, making it safe for darker skin tones where other laser types risk burns or pigmentation changes.
Typical Uses
- Dermatology practices treating both medical (acne, rosacea, psoriasis, PFB) and aesthetic (rejuvenation, hair removal, veins) concerns
- Practices specializing in darker skin types (Fitzpatrick IV-VI)
- Clinics wanting zero consumable costs and a compact, portable device
- Providers looking for a single device to replace multiple specialized lasers
Key Features
The Neo Derm is the most capable device in the Aerolase Neo lineup, combining medical dermatology and aesthetic applications with higher energy output than the Neo Elite alone. The zero-consumable model (no cooling gels, no tips, no replacement handpieces) keeps ongoing costs low. For hair removal specifically, the 1064nm wavelength works on all skin tones but is slower on large body areas compared to dedicated high-speed diode systems. Best suited for practices where hair removal is one of many services, not the primary revenue driver.
