Notes
Mid-range hybrid combining 808nm diode laser + 3D IPL on a single device. Hair removal is done via the LLD and ALD diode laser handpieces. These ARE real 808nm lasers. Two 3D IPL handpieces: L-530 (body, 530nm/650nm filters) and S-590 (face, 430nm/530nm/590nm filters) for skin rejuvenation, vascular/pigmented lesions, acne, and rosacea. Does NOT include the 1064nm Nd:YAG found on the full Magma. The '3D' in 3D IPL refers to three adjustable parameters: Energy, Pulse Duration, and Contact Cooling Intensity. Includes MILO digital melanin meter. Israeli manufacturer (Tirat Carmel), founded 2008. Distributed in North America by Aesthetic Management Partners and DermaSpark (Canada). Health Canada licensed. 20 million pulse handpiece life on diode.
Overview
Formatk's mid-range device positioned as 'Making Premium the New Standard.' Combines a genuine 808nm diode laser with 3D IPL technology on a single, smaller platform. The Alpha sits between the full Magma (which adds Nd:YAG) and the Spark (diode only). Unlike many hybrid systems where the hair removal component is IPL, the Alpha's primary hair removal handpieces (LLD and ALD) are real diode lasers.
How It Works
The LLD handpiece delivers 808nm diode laser energy with up to 35 J/cm² for hair removal. Five treatment modes allow personalized protocols: standard, fast, and three PowerMotion modes that use high-fluence in-motion delivery for single-pass treatments. The ALD handpiece offers an alternative 808nm spot size. Two 3D IPL handpieces: L-530 (body, filters at 530nm and 650nm) for pigmented/vascular lesions and body hair removal on lighter skin, and S-590 (face, filters at 430nm, 530nm, 590nm) for acne, rosacea, and facial rejuvenation. '3D' means three independently adjustable parameters: energy, pulse duration, and contact cooling intensity, addressing the vasoconstriction problem of overcooling. MILO melanin meter provides in-vivo skin typing. Golden-Touch contact cooling protects the skin.
Typical Uses
- Clinics wanting real diode laser hair removal plus IPL skin treatments on one compact platform
- Practices serving diverse skin types (Fitzpatrick I-VI)
- Med spas and aesthetic clinics wanting to expand beyond hair removal without a second device
- Clinics that don't need Nd:YAG vascular treatment (otherwise get the full Magma)
Key Features
The key distinction: the LLD diode handpiece IS a real 808nm laser, not IPL. The Alpha's 3D IPL handpieces offer independent control of energy, pulse duration, AND cooling temperature (most IPL systems only control energy and pulse duration). This addresses the overcooling/vasoconstriction problem where excessive cooling reduces treatment effectiveness. MILO melanin meter provides objective skin typing rather than visual Fitzpatrick assessment. No 1064nm Nd:YAG. Clinics needing vascular lesion treatment or dedicated darker-skin wavelength should consider the full Magma instead.
